Message from James Hopkins, Managing Director

As many of you know, the role of in-company toxicologists and/or managers, who have hazard and risk assessment amongst their management responsibilities, is becoming increasingly difficult. With legislative controls increasing and demonstrable compliance becoming more demanding, staying abreast of worldwide responsibilities is getting tougher all the time.

The impact that the EU REACH chemical regulations are likely to have on many companies in the chemical industry is a very good example of this. REACH implications are wide-ranging, and it is critical to begin the process whereby legal requirements are understood and catered for as a matter of some urgency.

James Hopkins, Managing Director        Peter Watts, Director of Toxicology

This is why we are urging our client companies to ensure they have made adequate provision for REACH support, especially toxicological advice. We genuinely feel that the demand for high quality toxicology advice will outstrip the supply. The shortage of qualified toxicologists who have the necessary level of expertise and experience to address the industry’s REACH requirements, as well as other compliance issues, is going to become increasingly severe, and responsible preparation is crucial in avoiding possible scientific embarrassment and financial damage.

If you have not lined up the internal or external resources that you intend to use to help you through the next 5 years of legislative adherence, we urge you to do so right now.

The simplest way of getting the process started on the right lines is to take out an appropriate level of bibra support membership. This is an inexpensive but professional way of being sure that REACH, or other compliance concerns, will not bring unnecessary problems to you and your organisation. Membership of bibra will ensure that high quality toxicologists will be available to you as and when you need them.

To understand more about how we can help you on this, and other chemical toxicology issues, I invite you to read the appropriate sections of our website, or call me on +44 (0)20 8722 4701. I unequivocally believe we are the best consulting and information services company in our field, and ideally placed to help with all your chemical risk and hazard assessment requirements.
